Revenue Grew 70% When They Started Watching the Numbers

Within a few months of working together, something shifted.

There’s a principle I come back to often: what you focus on grows. The founder who had never looked at the monthly financials couldn’t wait for our sessions to review them together. Every single month, before we met, the same energy: let’s see what the numbers are saying.

The result? Revenue grew 70% in that first year. And we’re not talking about a small business finding its footing. This was a multi-seven figure company. A 70% revenue increase at that level is significant.

Because here’s what I know about business owners at this level. It’s rarely a lack of intelligence that keeps them from their numbers. It’s that nobody ever made the numbers feel like theirs. Nobody sat with them monthly, translated what they were seeing, and connected the dots between the financials and the decisions they were making every single day.

Once that happened, the numbers stopped being something to avoid and started being something to lean into.

Here’s what most business owners don’t hear enough: a massive growth year is not a signal to push harder. It’s a signal to pause. To look at what the business actually needs to sustain and build on that growth. The right people. The right systems. The infrastructure that makes the next level possible without everything falling apart to get there.

2022 was that year. Revenue leveled out. And underneath the surface, the business got stronger. Profitability held. The foundation was being built.

That’s not a bad year. That’s a smart year.

It takes someone with a CFO-level lens to hold that perspective when the top line number isn’t climbing the way a founder expects it to.

By 2023 revenue was climbing again, and this time the business was ready for it. By 2024 revenue had grown over 100% from where the journey began. But more importantly, what the business kept from every dollar earned had transformed. In a service based business, that number tells the real story.

Not just revenue. Profitable revenue.

Most growing businesses at this level have the same blind spot. Not a people problem. Not an effort problem. A visibility problem. Nobody is watching the right numbers with a strategic lens.

A bookkeeper records what happened. A CPA files what’s required. But neither of them is sitting with you every month, reviewing what the numbers mean, holding the vision when one year looks different from the last, and helping you understand the difference between a bad year and a building year.

That’s the role that’s been empty. And when it’s filled, the numbers stop being something you dread and start being something you can’t wait to discuss.

Next week I’m sharing the end game. What four years of clean, consistent, strategic numbers ultimately built and the exit price that followed. Spoiler alert, it’s huge.
