The Offer You Can’t Refuse
They had been knocking on the door for years. This time the number was too loud to ignore.
The first reaction wasn’t celebration. It was fear.
"What if I don’t hit their targets?"
I said, "That kind of money is like winning the lottery. Even if you don’t hit their numbers."
The answer was yes.
This was one of our monthly sessions. The kind where the founder would smile and call me "Dr. Audrey," our little code for when the conversation was going to go deeper than strategy. When the numbers were fine but the mindset needed attention. When the founder needed to be reminded that the story they were telling themselves about the future was either building toward their goals or quietly talking them out of them.
That’s what makes what I do different from working with a traditional CFO strategist. I am also a Certified NeuroCoach. I know how to spot the beliefs that are running underneath the numbers. The ones that keep you stuck, keep you small, or have you second guessing an eight figure offer. And when they show up, we don’t just acknowledge them. We release them. Whether that’s through coaching, or a little EFT Tapping when the moment calls for it.
Bob Proctor said it best: "Success is 95% mindset."
The numbers and the mindset are never really separate.
Because here’s what I know about founders at this level. They don’t get to multi-seven figures by accident. They are driven, capable, and relentless. But even the most accomplished business owner can walk into a life changing moment and let fear do the talking.
Goals were set together every single year we worked together. And almost every single year, they were hit. The one year the numbers were down, I watched the founder talk themselves out of it in real time. Every session, the same language. I can’t do that again. There’s no way. And every session I said the same thing back: every time you say that, you are programming your brain not to hit the numbers. This founder didn’t get to multi-seven figures by not hitting goals. And deep down, they knew it.
So when the offer came, the hesitation made sense. The number was significant. The structure had conditions. And the brain went straight to the worst case scenario.
That’s what money mindset looks like at the highest level. It doesn’t disappear when you reach seven figures. It just shows up in bigger moments.
What made this exit possible wasn’t just the mindset work. It was four years of clean, consistent, strategic numbers that told a story any buyer could trust. When due diligence began, there were no surprises. No skeletons in the closet. No scrambling to explain discrepancies or reconstruct records. The books were clean. The profitability was real. The trajectory was clear.
And a buyer paid for that trajectory. An eight figure exit at half the revenue goal we had set together. They didn’t just buy where the business was. They bought where it was going. And the numbers proved it was going somewhere worth paying for.
I stayed through the entire due diligence process. And when the new company took over, my work there was done.
That is what a strategic CFO partnership looks like over four years. Not just reviewing numbers. Sitting inside a business as a fully immersed strategic partner, seeing what the founder can’t see, holding the vision when the numbers are uncomfortable, and building the kind of financial foundation that commands a premium when the right moment arrives.
The ROI across four years was well more than worth it. And that’s not just true for this founder.
Here’s what I want you to sit with as we close out this series.
This founder was already at multi-seven figures when we met. And even at that level, there was a significant tax mistake sitting in the financials from four years prior. Four years! Imagine what that money could have done in the business if it had been caught sooner.
I work with multi-six to multi-seven figure business owners. And the story is always the same. Not the details, but the gap. The role that’s been empty. The numbers nobody has been watching. The money that’s been quietly leaving through doors nobody knew were open.
The women I work with see anywhere from 20% to 1000% profit increases (yes, all of them). And I have to ask you something simple.
Isn’t even 20% worth having a conversation?
This series is called What a CFO-Level Strategist Is Actually Worth. And after four newsletters, one client, four years, and an eight figure exit, I’ll let you answer that question for yourself.
What is a CFO-level strategist actually worth to you and your business?
Because that conversation starts with a Financial Clarity Session. It’s free. We get to know each other, see if we are the right fit, look at where you are and what you actually need. We’ll know by the end of that session what the right next step is.
You didn’t build a multi-six or seven figure business by accident. But you don’t have to keep running it without someone in your corner who can see what you can’t see yet.
You can book your Financial Clarity Session at AudreyFaust.as.me/FinancialClarity.
